The much awaited Honda Jazz is set to debut on June 10 2009. A lot has been said about the upcoming hatchback from the Honda Siel stable, and considering all the hype, this is working out to be one of the most awaited launches in 2009.
The Honda Jazz is set to come in as a premium hatchback that will take on the likes of the Skoda Fabia and Hyundai i20. To a certain extent it will also compete against the likes of some low level midsizers like the Swift Dzire and Ford Ikon. How it performs in a crowd is what keen eyes from both the industry and the auto enthusiast population will observe, but for now the stars seem to be shining nice and bright for the future of the Honda Jazz.
Powered by a 1.2 litre engine, the Jazz is the ideal city car which is said to come with great interior space, excellent fit and finish and decent performance. Expect it to be rather frugal and packed with goodies, for Honda intends on offering the Jazz as a single variant option only, much like the initial offering on the Civic.
Price is the prevailing issue on the Jazz, however all speculation will come to a rest by June 10th, when the car rolls out into the market.
There are two ways to get hold of any market. One is to compete with existing products, fight over volumes and eke out breathing space for a new product, but leaders through automotive history have seldom taken this approach of beating others at their own game.
The truly iconic automobile has always been about being avant garde, about setting new benchmarks and creating a whole new and wide open segment for itself. It is about inviting competition, not fighting it. Which brings us to the hot new and much anticipated Honda Jazz that yours truly had the opportunity to drive recently in sunny Goa.
Walk around it, and the Jazz's form appears chic, dynamic and utilitarian all at the same time. It is neither one of those aggressive flared wheel arch hatchback designs trying to flex its muscles, nor the sleek smooth and elegant lines of a sedan that look almost unbecoming on a small car.
The Jazz comes with a strong individuality in terms of design with its mini-MPV-esque approach which imparts a true sense of practicality even from the outside, but one that is far too youthful and vibrant to be labeled as a workhorse. At the onset, the proportions may look unconventional but they are so for reasons far more practical than mere aesthetic.

Honda SIEL has finally taken the wraps off the Honda Jazz hatchback in Delhi today. Pricing is right where we had expected it, in the region of Rs 7 lakh.
The spacious hatchback will come with a single engine option for now - the techno-laden 1.2-litre SOHC iVTEC powerplant. The engine is good for a class-leading 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque. Despite this, Honda's techno-wizardry makes this a very frugal powerplant too - we haven't tested it yet, only driven it, but ARAI certifies it to be in the region of 16 kmpl. Utilitarian aspects of the car are key too, and the Jazz offers the advantages of hatchback compactness with near-sedan space.
The car has been launched in three variants - the Basic Jazz carries a price tag of Rs 6.98 lakh. The Jazz Mode variant is the family utility version with body side mouldings, corner protectors to prevent parking scratches, mud flaps and funky lit-up garnishes on the side step and will retain for Rs 7.28 lakh. The top-end Jazz Active is the sporty variant of the hatch with sport pedals, body coloured front grille, fog lamps and a smart spoiler at the top of the tailgate. This variant has been priced at Rs 7.33 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

Samsung Pixon 12 appears to be raising the standard for cellular phone cameras with an LED flash, a wide-angle 28mm lens, and a whopping 12 Megapixels. I’m sure there are cellular phones with a higher number of Megapixels, but most consumer digital cameras don’t go that high.
